If you have any questions, comments, or topic you would like us to discus and are unable to join us during the live show you can Email feedback from Andrew Bromley:<\/p>\n Further to you discussion of CAD for linux, there a a couple of programs you might want to look at.<\/p>\n For 3D CAD, there is solvespace, which is a draw and extrude based program, where models are build in a draw and exgrude fashion. Its basic approach is similar to freecad, but it is easier to use because it does not use the workbench approach, and limits itself to the draw and extrude approach to modelling. It can import models into the current file, which means that the user is responsible for project and parts management via separate files. It is available as a snap, and has a friendly forum, http:\/\/solvespace.com\/forum.pl.http:\/\/solvespace.com\/forum.pl<\/a><\/p>\n OpenSCAD is also useful, and do not let its progamatic nature put you off. While doing things like modelling threads and gears take real programing skills, libraries are available to do the hard work, and using them is quite straightforward. While OpenSCAD has limited 2d capabilities. it can import dxf files for more comples profiles to estrude or rotate. It allows use of an external text editor, and redraws the model when the file is saved. The documentaion, via .https:\/\/www.openscad.org\/<\/a> is pretty good.<\/p>\n I use both for 3d modelling for 3d printing, and they are differerent enough that this does not cause problems.<\/p>\n Some other programs that I am aware of.<\/p>\n For 2d drawing there is librecad, which is autocad like in interface and use, and creates dxf files, which can be imported into Openscad.<\/p>\n For ‘artistic’ 3D modelling, there is wings3d, which look easier to learn that Blender, having a simpler interface.<\/p>\n All the 3D programs will export stl files.<\/p>\n There are things on thingiverse that created with all the mentioned programs, and wich include the source files, so it is worth typing the programs name into the serach box and looking at what the programs are capable of, and how the things were created.<\/p>\n Andrew<\/p>\n Fixing the Sony FDR AX53 Tripod Mount Flaw\u00a0 Ben Heck Hacks Danny Meeks – This is the world\u2019s slowest laptop, yet people can’t wait to buy it Danny Meeks –\u00a0 Microsoft: we were wrong about open source. I’ve been introducing them to Twine (https:\/\/twinery.org\/)<\/a><\/p>\n For less lag when tunneling X over SSH, investigate changing your cipher. I’ve had good performance with aes256-ctr.
