If you need help configuring your mumble client there is a &#8220;How to&#8221; on\u00a0 our site explaining how to configure the desktop client.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions, comments, or topic you would like us to discus and are unable to join us during the live show on you can send us feedback at feedback@linuxlugcst.com<br \/>\nleave a comment in our G+ community\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/communities\/101183999294924142060\">https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/communities\/101183999294924142060<\/a><br \/>\nour MeWe community <a href=\"https:\/\/mewe.com\/join\/linuxlugcast\">https:\/\/mewe.com\/join\/linuxlugcast<\/a><br \/>\nor check us out on irc on the freenode server #linuxlugcast<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feedback<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom G+<br \/>\nFiftyOneFifty<br \/>\n&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>[FiftyOneFifty apologizes to the TrueOS devs.\u00a0 Lack of Steam support really had nothing to do with the changes to TrueOS.\u00a0 He sees now he should have waited until he did more research before criticising the distro]<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet\">\n<li>From the &#8220;You ain&#8217;t gonna believe this one department&#8221; (rant level 5 warning).\u00a0 In our last ep, I was trying to triple boot my new system to Windows, Fedora, and TrueOS.\u00a0 TrueOS (fork of FreeBSD) because they had been claiming Windows versions of Steam games would play as fast or faster on FOSS as they would in Windows thanks to PlayOnBSD.\u00a0 BSD doesn&#8217;t use GRUB and I have UEFI active so even though the install was successful, TrueOS didn&#8217;t show up in the bootloader.\u00a0 netminer actually read the Wiki better than I did and directed me to where it said I&#8217;d need a third party bootloader to make BSD play with EFI.\u00a0 They recommend reFind. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rodsbooks.com\/refind\/getting.html\">http:\/\/www.rodsbooks.com\/refind\/getting.html<\/a>\u00a0 Besides .deb and .rpm files to install reFind easily, there are also thumb drive and CD images so you can &#8220;try before you&#8221; buy.\u00a0 BTW, apparently there are more than one &#8220;run anything from UEFI&#8221; bootloader options, more on that next show.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"indent\">\n<li>OK, so I spend the evening beating on my new Fedora install because my USB stick is not automounting.\u00a0 Unetbootin gives me a permissions error and a different one after I install RPMFusion <a href=\"https:\/\/rpmfusion.org\/Configuration\">https:\/\/rpmfusion.org\/Configuration<\/a>\u00a0 dd&#8217;ing the image seems to work, but no luck starting from the thumb drive.\u00a0 Eventually, I give up and unpack the CD ISO and burn a CD.\u00a0 I can hit that using the hardware boot menu, but it seems to jump right to Windows (gave me the opportunity to bring Windows up to date after several weeks).\u00a0 Put CD-ROM before the hard disks in the boot order, then I had the chance to pick my OS, including TrueOS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"indent\">\n<li>OK, so now I&#8217;m into my TrueOS environment for the first time since install, but it&#8217;s in the command line.\u00a0 I&#8217;m thinking, OK, there are a number of conservative Linux&#8217;s that have you log into CLI, then run startx.\u00a0 Probably easily solved with a few config file tweeks once I Google how to get the GUI up.\u00a0 I got on another PC and Googled TrueOS and GUI and found THIS:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/trueos-plan-change\/\">https:\/\/itsfoss.com\/trueos-plan-change\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li>[<em>Note: Apologies to the TrueOS devs, you will learn below the abandonment of suport for Windows Steam games was the fault of PlayOnLinux not updating to Python 3<\/em>] This was a truly &#8220;Why is it getting dark in here and why can&#8217;t I feel half my face?&#8221; moment.\u00a0\u00a0 HOW IN THE BLOODY HELL DO YOU GO FROM &#8220;WE&#8217;RE GOING TO SHOW THE WORLD YOU CAN RUN WINDOWS GAMES BETTER IN A FOSS OS&#8221;\u00a0 TO &#8220;GRAPHICAL INTERFACE?\u00a0 WE DON&#8217;T DO THAT ANYMORE&#8221; IN LESS THAN A YEAR?\u00a0 Seriously, the way I understand it, graphical desktops are not\u00a0 even in the &#8220;repos&#8221; (or whatever the BSD equivalent is, right now I couldn&#8217;t give a turkey).\u00a0 The TRIAL\/installer image was quite graphical.\u00a0\u00a0 There is a further fork, www.project-trident.org , that is supposed to be TrueOS with the GUI.\u00a0 From the download page : &#8220;TrueOS and FreeBSD recently changed their bootloader to a new tool written in Lua rather than the traditional bootloader written in Forth. If you experience issues with booting the ISO or the installed system, please file a bug ticket with the FreeBSD project.&#8221;\u00a0 Sorry, if I wanted system breaking updates, I&#8217;D RUN WINDOWS ONLY.\u00a0 Four out of Five hackers recommend anything but Trident for their clients who run games.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"indent\">\n<li>I can erase the partitions TrueOS\u00a0 created easily enough.\u00a0 I guess I am now in search of a BSD with enthusiasm for PlayOnBSD [FiftyOneFifty won&#8217;t, unless he can find a Python 2 diehard BSD].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet\">\n<li>From the &#8220;TrueOS Community&#8221; Community Chat<\/li>\n<li>Project Trident Community Channel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet\">\n<li>Plot thickens, FiftyOneFifty contacted Rodney Myers (author of the above post).\u00a0 He was able to tell be PlayOnBSD was stuck in Python 2 (likely all BSDs have moved on) and gave me the handles of a couple Trident devs in the chat who could tell me why TrueOS dropped the deskop alltogether.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet\">\n<li>JT (q5sys) &#8220;TrueOS decided to focus completely on the base OS, as an attempt to help advance FreeBSD by being a testing bed for future changes.\u00a0 An example of this would be TrueOS&#8217;s implementation of OpenRC and AutoFS enabled by default.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8212;-And also from FiftyOneFifty<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet\">\n<li>From +DoorToDoorGeek.\u00a0 Finally, &#8220;The promise I was kingdomed&#8221;\u00a0 Pine has announced a PineBook Pro, Rockchip based, metal case, 4Gb RAM portable.\u00a0 At $199, you could argue you could get a faster Intel on the secondary market, but no way it&#8217;s this slim.\u00a0 Also, a Rockchip upgrade for the 14&#8243; checkbox in Ubuntu.\u00a0 Required even to install VLC.\u00a0 Steam requires proprietary and 32-bit drivers.\u00a0 After finding contradictory CLI installation instructions, I finally got frustrated and just installed the drivers from the Software Center, same with Steam itself.\u00a0 Using protondb.com to pick Windows games to install.\u00a0 Surprised I got GTA V in just a few hours.\u00a0 (Getting a DirectX 11 not found error, I must still have a setting not right)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Installed W.I.N.E. on Fedora<\/li>\n<li>&gt;
